Thanks for all your help.  We seem finally to be getting good results and 
throughput.

Here's a msg I put in the IMail forum where there is a lot Interest in AV 
for Imail.

Traffic through this ISP's IMGateAV could double next week as he adds more 
domains the sign up for the service.

Here's a report for an IMGate site (running IMGate for 1 year) where I have 
just installed IMGateAV this week.  The virus scanner is Kaspersky AV 
Daemon for FreeBSD.

The IMGateAV machine is 1 GHz, 512 mb Ram, SCSI 160 mb/sec disk.

The average "load" is about 0.5.  (ie, Unix "load" is how many processes 
are queued up ready to run).

Machine is averaging 90% idle for the volumes below:

Viruses caught:

       1 Infected with I-Worm.Magistr.a.corrupted
       3 Infected with I-Worm.Nimda
       3 Infected with I-Worm.KakWorm
       7 Infected with Win32.Aliz
      14 Infected with I-Worm.Magistr.a.poly
      21 Infected with I-Worm.Magistr.b.poly
      61 Infected with I-Worm.Magistr.b
      74 Infected with I-Worm.Magistr.a
     172 Infected with I-Worm.Sircam.c

     356 TOTAL

The above virus stats are for the following traffic, inbound from internet 
to Imail. The chain is

2. IMGate (2 with equal MX preference)

3. IMGateAV

4. Imail
