Im forwarding it here because avcheck has the same
issue (at least in my setup).

Hi!

I just had to work through some stuck email that was caused by an
amavisd and postfix interaction problem:
* Setup:
  Postfix-1.1.0 (older versions are affected, too)
  amavisd from AMaViS snapshot-20011031 (with Sophie, but does not matter)
  local_recipient_maps=local_recipient_maps =
       $alias_maps, nis:passwd.byname, dbm:/etc/postfix/virtual
* Problem:
  When mail is being submitted via /usr/sbin/sendmail, local_recipient_maps
  is not evaluated. Thus emails with wrong local user names are accepted.
  The emails are handed to amavisd, amavisd will deliver them back via
  SMTP at port 10025. At port 10025 postfix however will apply
  local_recipient_maps and reject the emails due to the wrong local
  user names with a 5xx response. Amavis will thus stop and the mail
  stays in the queue with a temporary error message (delivery is tried
  again in intervals but of course can never succeed).
* Solution:
  When receiving mails at localhost:10025 disable local_recipient_maps.
  The mail will be received and the appropriate bounce message will
  be generated. The use of local_recipient_maps is not defeated, as
  only local users can connect to localhost:10025 and they can call also
  /usr/sbin/sendmail (bypassing local_recipient_maps anyway).
localhost:10025 inet  n      -      y      -      -      smtpd
    -o content_filter= -o local_recipient_maps=

I think this issue was already discussed on amavis-users in April 2001
  http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?t=98776225300002&r=1&w=2
but not resolved at that time.

Best regards,
	Lutz
