Hmm. Which version do you have?
I just checked (was lazy to do that before, when sending the
announce in the first place), -- the change in question, the
incorrect one for wich the patch is for, has been made in
version 0.993, together with all the other changes around
data line parsing. 0.993 was out 01 Jul 2004. The patch
should not apply to 0.992 and earlier, which don't have this
bug (but which have some other bugs fixed since).

The procedure is correct. But you didn't specify the version
to which you tried to apply the patch...
