This is a serious issue indeed.  It might even lead to having two
branches.  The 0.9xx and the <new branch>.  rbldnsd is used in critical
systems all over the world (well, certainly in ours), so major changes
are not very welcome.

It took quite a while for me to work through your entire email - and I
know I don't understand enough about rbldnsd internals to appreciate
all of it :-(

It is important to be aware that people will continue to run the
existing rbldnsd for quite some time, maybe years, regardless of a new
and better version.
