Hello.
I'm - finally - releasing 0.998 version of rbldnsd, which can
be found in usual location http://www.corpit.ru/mjt/rbldnsd.html
This is a minor release with 2 bugfixes in it. From the NEWS file:
0.998 (05 Dec 2015)
- bugfix: correctly handle V4MAPPED (v4 in v6) addresses, the
original v6 prefix was wrong. Thanks to Alex Lasoriti for
finding the issue
- bugfix: sometimes IP4-based datasets gave false positives when
an IP6 dataset were present, and it was also possible to have
false positive in IP6 datasets. Both has been fixed.
(yes, I know today is Dec-31rd, but actual changes were made before).
Since I haven't done anything with the code for a very long time,
and because I don't have any use for the beast, also for a very
long time, but Spamhaus relies on the software for their work,
I'm donating the whole project to them, hopefully it will be more
useful to the world this way.
Hopefully they wont screw it up too much :)
I'll make a note on the web page where the new home will be
(after returning from a small new-year vacation trip).
I also hope other users, and especially contributors, wont object
too much, too.
This project was born when Joe Jared operated his famous blocklist,
relays.osirusoft.com, and when it become obvious that some sort of
special software is needed to replace named which needed almost whole
day to reload the data. It served many famous blocklists since that
time, and almost all of them are dead now. I hoped it wont last too
long, in a few years its need will be declined. And this, in some
way, actually happened, because situation with the blocklists changed
significantly, and its usage is not that widespread as before. Maybe
also because email changed a lot too, we have less and less people
running their mailservers, or even who actually know what email is
(current generation think that email is what is offered by gmail.com
or yandex.ru or hotmail.com - ie, the web-based thing). So I think
the move is well justified now, on one side I'm not involved in this
anymore, and on another there are actual active users out there (and
Spamhaus maybe the largest) with actual real usage and needs.
So let me make a small gift to Spamhaus, by moving all responsibility
to them right away :)
Happy New Year everyone, in hope for a better world,
/mjt
