Hi,
Thanks for your help the problem was that I was not using fully
qualified names.
It now all working ok on my side, it's just the configuration of the
Mail sweeper that's now a problem.
In that when a test mail is sent form a blocked address it does not get
blocked.

Just a couple of questions to start.
Do other entries in your list get blocked?
When you start rbldnsd what is the output reply from
your command?
When you dig localhost with the test IP address do you
get 127.0.0.1? When you dig from another machine do
you get 127.0.0.1?
