Hi everybody and Happy New Year,

as you may remember from Michael's message to this list exacty one year
ago, the maintenance of the codebase for rbldnsd was kindly donated to
Spamhaus:

http://www.corpit.ru/pipermail/rbldnsd/2015q4/001260.html

Not much happened with regard to the public codebase for this project in
the last 12 months, so everything more or less remained stuck at that
point so far, but we're ready to move forward in the next weeks.

Of course, we have no intention to introduce drastic changes in how the
project has been managed so far, but a few things need to be different
for us to control it as we'd like to.

First of all, we imported Michael's repository to Github, that will be
the new home for the code:

https://github.com/spamhaus/rbldnsd

With the beginning of the new year we'll publish a new release with the
goal of fixing a couple of minor oddities with the current code:

https://github.com/spamhaus/rbldnsd/issues

We'll obviously include the latest patch by Andrew Clayton in it (it's
actually already committed in GitHub).

At the same time, we may introduce a couple of minor additions to the
current code that we think should be there.

However, the plan is to limit intervention to the current code to just
fixes of obvious bugs or security issues, but without introducing any
new real feature. This translates as asymptotically reaching the 1.0
milestone, just like it's been so far.

On the other hand, we've already started working towards a 2.0 version,
for which we invite the community to provide ideas and desiderata:
https://list.rbldnsd.io/listinfo/dev is the mailing list where
everything concerning rbldnsd will be discussed from now on, both for
v1.0 and v2.0.

We'll consider creating a ML dedicated to users (as opposed to
developers) in the future if needed, but given the very low traffic the
old one had for a very long time this is not worth for now as all the
discussions can take place on this single list.

We'll also work to get the ML archives imported on the new platform if
Michael agrees, in order to keep the entire history of the project in a
single place.

To summarize all this, we created a website for the project at
https://rbldnsd.io/.

The contents are quite minimal at the moment, but that's where
information about the project at large will be published.

Again, thank you to Michael for his effort during all these years and to
the entire community who's been helping him doing that; we hope 2017
will bring you the best you can wish for.
