Well, I guess that's where you and I differ - I /never/ believe hype -
it's a shure-fire way to get bitten. I'll use "web 2" as an example
(not because you'll get bitten). Web 2 is touted as the "all new",
"do all" web application. Fact is; web 2 has been around since 1994.
Back then it was called "DHTML". I called it JavaScript. In fact I
even wrote an OS out of JavaScript. I knew l-o-o-o-n-g before most
everyone that Cyrix (a CPU company) was going out of business. I
had the brilliant idea to write an OS from JS and sell it to Sun(r)
on the premise that I knew Cyrix would accept nearly any offer that
Sun made, and they could use my OS which I designed from their (Sun)
product, and written against the Cyrix CPU's instruction set. It
was to be the opportunity of a lifetime. I was just getting ready
to make an appointment, and reservations to fly down and pitch my
deal, when I discovered that the lawsuit that Sun had lodged against
Microsoft(r) had just made a turn - Microsoft countered as defense
that Sun's product (Java), was /really/ an operating system. err...
If I went down there and pitched my deal now, I'd only be affirming
Microsoft's claim. I don't think Sun wants to do anything to affirm
Microsoft's defense - do you? So as you might imagine, I was /crushed/
and obviously never went ahead with my plan. Point being; Web 2 would
have you believe that Web 2 is /brand/ /new/, it's the best, and most
innovating thing since sliced bread. Fact is; it's older than hell,
and as I've shown, I have enough knowledge to know it.
So if I understand you correctly, if any "admins" attempt to use
my system, they'll have no idea whether the lists are good, or bad.
They'll need to go over all of my code, in order to know one way,
or the other. My point is; if you use /anything/ and have "half
a clue", you'll discover right quick, if it's all it's cracked up
to be. Like they say - the proof is in the pudding.
'nuf said. :)
In all fairness to mjt, and the other list members. I'd
/really/ like to keep this thread related to rbldnsd. My
motivation for starting this thread, was to get some
insight on the best application of rbldnsd as it pertains
to running a public RBL. I'm /not/ here to "picth" my
project. If you (or anyone else) has any information
pertaining to that (rbldnsd), I'd /love/ to hear it. :)
